Car Craft Carcraft experiences.
Published by gazwaz

BAD BAD BAD BAD. We bought a Freelander for £10,000 (Later found out they were going for £6500 Private) OK... So lesson learned. We'd part ex'd our Picasso and got £3500 for it. (It was on their forecourt next week for £6500... OK.. So they are a business and there to make money.

Now for the real issues. 120 point check???. Our Freelander required a full service to uphold the (Carcraft NAC) warranty so we splashed out and took it to Landrover because my wife would be driving this car with my young son on board and we had to be sure everything was OK. The report came back from Landrover that the vehicle was not road worthy and required £450 of repair to get it so. Carcraft willingly paid for that so I was just pleased that we didn't have to pay the bill.

We took out their 1 year warranty for just under a grand. I read it and it stated that they would only cover up to £750 of the cost of any repair. I was about to walk out of the door because, as I explained to the sales guy, if the head gasket goes it's going to cost me a lot more than that. The sales guy went on to assure me that the £750 bit was per part repaired. I.E. If your head gasket goes it would cover each part of the engine that was damaged as long as each part didn't exceed £750.

On the strength of this we went ahead. We were in there for 9 LONG hours. We were told we were getting £2000 cash back. Realized two months down the line that they had just added £2000 to the back end of the loan in an unobvious cleaver way.

8 Months down the line, head gasket went. Took it straight to Landrover as I have this fantastic warranty that would cover everything. Landrover called me back a day later to tell me that the cost of the repair was just over £2500 and Carcraft would cover £750 of that cost. Getting worried now. I called Carcraft and spoke to the big boss(I think). He informed me that they would never had said anything other than they would only cover up to £750 of a total repair and that it was my word against his sales guy(When these sales are taking place they are in an enclosed room so nobody else can hear anything).

Anyway, £2000 3 weeks before Christmas. Thanks Carcraft. That was sure a year to remember. I was told by the guy who delivered my car back from Landrover that he see's at least two of these blown head gaskets per week and that I should get rid of the car asap because it could go at any time again.

I sold the car 2 weeks later and got £5500 for it. I am still paying the remaining £6500 I owe on the car to this day.

It only had 50K on the clock and a full Landrover history. I'm not blaming Carcraft for the inherent Head Gasket problem on the K series engine, but I am MAD at Carcraft for making me feel such a Fool. Yes... I feel so so stupid because I was, obviously, stitched up big time and fell for everything they told me.

I don't take comfort in learning that thousands of other Carcare customers are having the same such experiences now and in the past.

Carcraft is a good place to visit if your not sure what sort of car you want or you just want to browse but I would Highly recommend that if you do buy from there, take you own mechanic and use cash but before you do buy, check Autotrader. I GUARANTEE you will find the same car for at least £2000 less than Carcrafts price.

Many thank for listening to me.

Regards

Un-happy Carcraft (customer)

The one(and only) time I went to carcraft I was dumbfounded. Half of their year old cars were going for considerably more than the dealer(franchised dealer at that) was selling 6 month old cars round the corner! And this was the case with LOADS of their stock!

I must ask the question.....WHY with this in mind would anyone buy from Carcraft?

Thanks for your reply MrShed. When you walk into these places with buying a car in mind it's so easy to get carried away with it all. They have some very attractive offers on finance that would make paying for, for someone less fortunate to have a bad credit rating etc, very easy.

These offers are to be masked with the sales pitch and in my experience and many other experiences of other people (Just google) the costs were not clear in the slightest.

In the past, if I wanted to buy a car I would go out and buy one that day, no matter how or where, I would get one. Carcraft love people like me.

I have now learned my harsh lesson and as stated above, I still feel like a foolish stupid person for doing what I did. I suppose the one positive experience I gained from Carcraft was that it taught me a lesson.

Trouble is, Thousands of people, just like me, are doing the exact same thing and Carcraft are cashing in on this.

It's not just the price that is the issue here though. There are lots of other factors such as the 120 point check, sales techniques, quality of vehicles, after service, warranty.... The list goes on.

I wish I'd done what you did MrShed and just walked away. Would have saved me over 6K

Hi there!
Just happened to find this thread as I bought my Freelander from Carcraft.
Yes, it is easy to get swept away in the showroom, with the slick salesmen. I actually don't have a gripe with them so much as with finance loan we took out with GEMoney.

We had £212 p.m. with included £800 worth of 5-year warranty for extras, all for 5 years and are currently 2 and a 1/2 years through. We have had 4 missed (by a day or two) monthly payments in the last 6 months with them and it has all turned into a nightmare. They charged me £45 each time they had to re-present the direct debit. The Carguard salesman whispered to me that after halfway through the term, not many people should know this, you can actually give the keys back and call it a day!
Settlement figure £6026
Current car value £2100
Balance owing £3926 and no Car!
See my thread AA99 v GEMoney car loan

Car craft is a disgrace, they have ruined my life since September 2007 and i am still having issue's with them now. I stupidly bought a car from them for 7500 with the rip off 5 year warrenty they says covers everything that actually covers nothing. Still 3 months after i sold the car for less than half the price i bought it for as it was knackered, i am still recieving phone call from them, saying its due for its service, eben though i must had told them 3/4 time now the car isnt mine anymore, so take my details off you records and dont contact me again.

They are very cunning at Car craft and it is increadable from the amount of people i talk to that car craft are still in business. They buy cars from auctions which haven't gone through there MOT for dirt cheep, then pollish it up and flog them on with 3 extra 0's on the end of the price tag. I bought a 54plate MG ZR with 16,000 miles on the clock for 7500, i though wonderful car, until i had over the spac of 9 months, get 3 new drivers side window mechanisms £130 each, 2 new sets of door panal clips £110 each set. 2 new back windscreen wiper motors for £60 a piece, and after all this when i came to sell the car 9 months later with 34,000 on the clock i found that i was the 7th owner of this vehicle.

Well if they can blag that a car is so wonderful, when in my experiance it would have been more use spending £7500 on a push bike. Car craft are a set of scammers, and if anyone tells you differently they are lying. I have lots more stories to tell you, e.g. NAC etc, but i dont have enough time today to share them all with you, i just hopes this stops every person reading this from getting a car from car craft caus eif yopu do, you'll be making a big mistake.

Oh one final thing. When i took it back to get fixed, one of the many times. A typical example, i saw a 55 plate Seat Leon Cupra R, it looked wonderful, it was in the inside show room, and was advirtised at £12,995 i asked how many miles were on it and they said 92,000. Funnily enough on the way hone that day i saw a 56 plate Seat Leon Cupra R, same spec, etc, a year newer and with only 32,000 miles on the clock, selling for, wait for it, £7,950 so that a year newer car, with 60,000 odd less miles, for nearly £5000 cheaper. If that doesn't show you how rubbish and disgracful they are i dont know what will.
Please everyone, dont buy a car from car craft

CARCRAFT ARE CONNIVING

My then 18 year old son bought a car from them in March 2007 in response to their advertising NIL DEPOSIT. After some 8 hours he came back with the car (to my surprise). I asked him if he had to take it back for the pre-delivery inspection? He had been told all their stock are "ready to go from the sales floor, as all stock are inspected by their in house mechanics, anything which needs to be done for a car to be roadworthy or MOT is done by the in house mechanics" )

......A few days after his excitement died down a little, I asked to have a look at the paperwork, which he was reluctant to let me do at first. Powers of a parent persuasion prevailed. The figures did not add up. The car was in the showroom for £6,999. The total amount of finance was £8,850, so that was an additional £1,851 they had for the car. This was done across 2 finance companies, one of which clearly stated in their small print"Loans are available to customers over 20 years of age" .....

..... My son telephoned Carcraft and their rep said they had to do the finance over 2 companies as the "primary" finance company would not cover all of the finance and it was to cover his deposit my son replied in a raised voice "IT WAS A NIL DEPOSIT OFFER" to which they deny his car being part of this offer and said it is his word against the sales reps!! He raised the price of the car and he was told the amount of finance was the total cost of the car. No matter how much he repeated the price which was on the car, they insisted he was wrong.

.....My husband called CarCraft and said he had considered our son to have been "ripped off" to which the reply was "Your son is happy with the deal (no he wasn't) and is merely your opinion sir", after understandably they had refused to discuss the account due to Data Protection Act. a least they got something right here........

The same week as purchase the police stopped him accusing him of not being insured. He called me to tell me what had happened and the police were threatening to take the car off him. My husband had to take the insurance certificate, receipt for payment and his finance documentation to the scene. It turned out that by police records showed there was another car of the same make, model and reg number in the south of England, registered to a woman. He was allowed to go. He was stopped so many times for the same thing, he kept his documents with him.

...I spoke to his insurance company the next day and they too found the same information as the police ! I asked how my son stood and was asked to send in copies of all paperwork associated with the purchase and car, which I did and they agreed to continue insuring him as he had paid in full.

Then about 10 weeks after buying the car, he was involved in an accident with the car and the car ended up being a write-off. This was a nightmare with the insurance, because of this other car in the south of England. The insurance has eventually paid out to the "primary" finance company £5,500
